In some cases, there is a distinct possibility that braces can cause problems or can break or detach. In these cases, you should always err on the side of caution and fix an appointment at our practice. Often emergencies like this happen outside our opening hours. For this reason, we have put together a few useful tips for you so that you can manage well until your SOS appointment. In all these cases, please arrange an SOS appointment at our practice. Has a band or a bracket loosened?
If a bracket or a band (metal ring) has loosened but is still in the brace, leave it where it is for the time being. At your appointment in our practice we will secure the band again.

Have you lost rubber bands or wire ligatures?
If you lose a rubber band or a wire ligature it is generally alright to just tell your orthodontist at the next appointment – provided that the braces are still secure.
If you lose a spring or another active element, you will need to immediately arrange an appointment.
Do you have sores?
If you have sores on your lips, cheeks or tongue you can accelerate healing with a Kamillosan or sage tea rinse. Sometimes it can help to use a little adhesive wax on the brace at the point where your mouth is sore. If there is no improvement, arrange an SOS appointment at our practice.
Is your facebow causing you problems?
If you have problems or discomfort due to your facebow, or if it is faulty, do not wait too long and immediately arrange an appointment at our practice.
Has the fixed apparatus in your gum area loosened?
If a band has loosened, try to push it back onto the tooth.
The apparatus should then no longer bother you. If the object has completely detached from the fixed apparatus, carefully try to completely remove it.
Has one of the arch wires loosened?
If an arch wire has loosened, try to carefully put it back into the bracket or band using tweezers.
If that is not easy to do, you can try to glue the end of the arch wire down with a little wax or sugar-free chewing gum.
Is one of the arch wires bothering you?
If an arch wire loosens or bothers you, try to bend it or push it back with your fingernail or a spoon handle.
If you are not able to do this, you can glue the end of the arch wire down with a little protective wax or sugar-free chewing gum.
Is the fixed apparatus causing you pain?
After the apparatus or the multiband arch is secured, it may initially be painful. If necessary, you can take a painkiller to combat this pain.
If there is no improvement after a short phase to get used to it, arrange an appointment in our practice without delay.
Do you have inflamed gums?
Generally, gum inflammation can be attributed to poor oral and dental hygiene. Carefully clean your teeth and gums after every meal. If there is no improvement in the inflamed area, it is best to arrange an appointment with your dentist.
